I ordered a polishing kit and have read most of the posts on polishing. I have a couple questions. Im planning on starting with the clutch cover and crankcase cover. Whats the best way to keep the paint remover from getting on the engine and is it bad for the gaskets?

Yes it's bad for the gaskets.

Best practice is to remove the covers for the initial hard-core restorative polishing.

How are you planning on removing the paint? I usually remove each piece that I want to polish....then re-install when finished.

Take short-cuts and you'll eat your heart out paying for them.......I learned the hard way......lol.....will you?

Start with a light coat of paint remover. and work up from there. most of these parts are cast. you can create problems if you use to heavy of a solvent. Do not soak overnight.
