Master cylinder rebuild kit

Ok so I bought a MC kit, and as I was getting ready to remove it, I c there are lots of parts, and I have a service manual but it only shows illustrations, so my thought pattern was just to switch from the stock MC and put one on the handlebars, which I think would be much simpler for me. My question is, if I do that do I have remove the old MC, and can't I just rerun the hoses. The sensor had already been cut so no need to restore that right away, but I do have intentions of doing that. what do yall think....????

Put information about your bike in your signature. Then everyone can see what you're working on without digging around for it.

If you put your location in the signature too you might find a member nearby that can do the job with his eyes closed.

For the most part master cylinders aren't difficult. Probably simpler to rebuild yours than change the set up. Cheaper too since you already have the kit.

 

I just rebuilt one on my Maxim and it was very easy. The hardest part could have been the snap ring but I bought the 'deep' snap ring pliers from Len and it worked great.

 

Well accomplished the rebuilding of MC, brakes work, but now I have to clean the calipers, probably should have done that first, but you live and you learn.... xj750r seca 82

 

You don't need any special snap ring tools for the 750 Seca MC. The snap ring is right on top. See my thread.

 

In order to change from the remote master cylinder on the Seca to the handle bar mount. You will also need to modify/replace the right switch controls. The brake lever mount is molded into the switch housing, and will interfere with the bar mounted master cylinder.

...and either get an adapter hose from Chacal to connect the handlebar-mounted MC (usually 10mm banjo bolt) to the OEM front brake splitter (the 750 Seca uses a double-swedged hard line) or replace the OEM brake splitter with one that only uses 10mm banjo bolts.

FYI a right-side control set from a 750 Maxim or 920 Virago will work (and have the aux light switch).

Other MCs that are large enough to drive a dual-disk setup and a 7/8" handlebar mount may need some mirror adapting if from a faired bike (that does not have a mirror mount) or from a non-Yamaha bike.

Look in the XJ Modifications area; several have switched their Secas to a bar-mount MC.
