Which XJ are you working on? Put it in your signature so you won't have to remember.
Possible the diaphram is leaking fuel into the vacuum line.

Is it the carb diaphram your talking about?

Sounds like the diaphram in the petcock. If that is leaking, it would cause fuel to flow inside the vacuum line and act as if the enrichment circuit is on. Sounds like it is time for a petcock rebuild.

I agree with buzz81mach. Petcock diaphragm is leaking and fuel is being drawn into the carb through the vacuum line.

If you rebuild with the entire kit, it may not shut off in run and reserve when the engine is off. I had this problem. If so, you will need to lengthen the reach of the plunger attached to the diaphragm. Use a socket that just fits over the plunger and tap the vacuum end of the plunger very lightly. This will probably create a very small dimple in the diaphragm washer, but allow the plunger to properly seat. Worked for me.

Yes the petcock flows during pri but not on run. Also i was looking through the manual and it looks like this is a different petcock on my bike not stock. Its not the square one its the one that looks like a house and has two tubes going into the tank, would this be a problem seeing is how it worked prior to this?
