I have a 82 xj750 and have replaced my speedometer cluster twice because the needle keeps breaking. Does anybody have any sugestions or answers for this problem. This is my first yamaha, and never had this happen on any other bike. Thanx !!

need more details what were you doing when it broke and what part actually broke? I haven't heard of this being a common issue.

Wondering if theres a problem with the drive on the wheel. Is the cable properly lubed? Just some ideas, good luck.

These needles are extremely brittle - Mine was busted and as I took the old needle off - very carefully I might add, the needle broke a couple more times without even being touched - just the messing with the hub was enough to shake it enough to snap it further. I don't know what the best fix is - took that needle off and put it on the old speedometer - as I can't find new needles anywhere. The new needle wasn't as brittle for whatever reason (maybe not out in the sun as much?) I've heard of people using clock hands and some how attaching those -but I'm wary that the hand must have to be a certain weight to be accurate on the motorcycle (maybe I'm not correct). I'll be interested to see what answers people have for you...

Maverick, I was driving and needle broke. I then bought another speedometer cluster and put that one on and it to broke. I was also thinking it might have something to do with the gear drive at the wheel ?
Dont know if cable was lubed or not, was a new cable when i got the bike.
