1985 xj700. I was riding down the road when she started to miss something terrible with no power. so I pull over and it cuts off and then I have NOTHING. no headlight, tail light, ignition, etc. upon getting the bike back to the house and digging out the old multimeter I found that I do not have power anywhere except the blue/white wire running into the starter relay. I followed the manuals procedure for troubleshooting the starting system and I could not get the relay to click. Obviously a bad relay would hinder the bike from starting, BUT would it cut all power to the bike? Im a little rusty with wiring schematics so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't know what state your fuse box is in, but that is where I would start.

turned out to be the connector on the fuse box was broken and shorted to the frame. I replaced it with a weatherproof fuse holder and haven't had an issue yet. thanks for the help

I was just out for a ride today when this happened to me. No misfiring or anything just a complete shut down. Tried to bump start it twice down a hill and nothing. Brought my bike back home and notice that I have nothing as well. Not one indicator light on the cluster. I just changed the battery over the weekend for a brand new one and went out for a long ride. Today was a different story. I've tried to follow all wires around since I've had electrical problems in the past, but couldn't find anything. I checked fuses as well. I understand a bit about how the bike works, but if its a blown relay or circuit somewhere I'm left clueless.

Any help is appreciated as to what to look at next.
