So, not sure why, but somebody cut 3 of 4 of my spark plug wires. I don't need the whole coil, so Chacal - I'm thinking I need the four replacement plug wires, and four spark plug splicers?

Any other thoughts or input on fixing this mess?

did they cut them or just unscrew the plug caps? if it was just the caps or they left enough wire to reach the plugs you can just screw new caps on.

Obviously that somebody was in a bit of a hurry, and just yanked the plug caps off the ends of the wires.

When you get your new caps trim approx 1/4" (5-6mm) off the end of the wires to give the new caps fresh wire to get a good bite into. This will help prevent a misfire/ no spark situation.

It's not the first time a biker has pissed off a neighbor.

Looks like someone has it out for you. Make sure you park where there is lots of visibility and you can see the perp in your crosshairs.

Just kidding but you should report to the police just in case you were not the only one with problems that night.

Not to high jack this thread but there are people out there that still stereotype any one who owns and rides a motorcycle as outlaw bikers and we are evil. Guess they watched Mad Max too many times. Who knows

Very true.. I thought about that with his plug wire situation too. Could've just been some old kodger that hates "bikers".

I'll save you from the stereotypes I have in mind but the little SOB that iced me was just looking for trouble and I would've loved to give him some if I wasn't so sure the rest of the "basketball team" was lurking in the park behind him.

Sorry to exacerbate the hijack! Good luck with the wires shnuffy!

Someone needed them and knew how they come apart...someone out to vandalize/disable woulda done more damage...

See, another advantage to me painting mine yellow....some dick does that, eventually I'll see him riding around with them...and take them back...maybe with the rest of his bike attached...dragging behind my truck from a tow chain at 65 mph...

Anybody in your neighborhood have an XS 750/850 or another type triple? Since they only took 3....Maybe you need to check into an alarm system. Sorry your bike got messed with, hopefully it was a one time thing.

Bingo! We have what, 4 votes now for "stole your caps." Look at the wires; the crew is right on, they weren't cut.

Make sure Chacal knows it's a 550, we're different than the rest...

Thanks everyone. I thought the whole situation was pretty bizarre, especially living in Canada's "safest town".

What was interesting to me was the specific knowledge involved in taking just the caps. The bike was otherwise unharmed (kids like to just push them over, break a mirror, etc). This makes me think it was somebody who needed the caps -- it's strange, because they're just not that valuable.

I'll keep an eye out for XJ's in the area, but it's a long shot. I'll PM Chacal -- I just need caps, is that right?

More pics (I know, the chain needs some love. I just need some time!):

Might as well do something with that chain while you're ordering parts. Probably sprockets too.

Yeah no kidding! If the chain breaks, it can come up and tear the starter out of the case and break the castings.

If the chain looks like that on the outside it HAS to be even worse on the inside.

I can see this now... Find the guy and wander over casually swinging the old rusty chain while telling him "Shnuffy would like his caps back!" Be sure to use the third person.

    :D
