Sorry for the basic questions but - first time on this forum" spent several hours trying to find the answer to this question. I took the carbs off a 1980 Maxim to clean. - obviously they had been taken off before by previous owner as the the jets were not the same places in all 4 carbs. So I am not sure which way they should go back. - I have jets numbered 195 and 66? - which is the pilot air jet which is the main air jet() After removing diaphragm and removing the gold screw/plate the two air jets were underneath - Looking at the Air jets from the top with the jets on the right side of the chamber which is the Main Air Jet port and which is the Pilot air jet port ? or to asking another way is the larger hole jet the Pilot or Main air jet. Secondly which goes where ??
I know the fuel jets are on the bottom of the carb inside the fuel bowel - with the larger jet #110 the main fuel jet. It is the Air jets that are the confusion.

    Thanks

The pilot air jet(large hole jet) goes to the front(throttle plate side) of the carb.
The main air jet(small hole jet) goes to the rear(air intake side) of the carb.

Be aware that the Haynes manual has at least one illustration with the jets reversed.

AIR Jets are OPPOSITE from FUEL Jets.

The LARGER AIR Jet is the PILOT AIR Jet.
The SMALLER AIR Jet is the MAIN AIR JET

If these are reversed what effect would it have on fuel consumption?

The jets were fine. The LABELLING was backwards.
