I would like to put a simple windshield on my 82 Seca 750, not a fairing. What I'm running into is that all the winshields that I've found listed as fitting the Seca are handlebar mounted, requiring removal of the plastic handlebar covers. Is there such a thing as a windshield that fits the Seca with stock handlebar covers?

best bet is probably a universal fork mount windshield.

I fabricated some mounts utilizing the mirror mounts once. Also used the forks for lower mounts. Just an idea for ya.

The easiest route is to replace your handlebars/covers with a new/uncovered 7/8" bar (superbike bend seems most popular), chrome or black. Then it is real easy to mount a small shield. However, I really am not fond of the look of a 750 Seca with a plain shield as the rectangular lights do not look right and it is sometimes difficult to get the generic windshields to fit properly around the top of the headlight as most are made for a 7" round headlight.

I know you said you didn't want a fairing, but the Rifle products look good on the 750 Seca (but they are not cheap).

I have a Maxim, but my windshield doesn't attach to the handle bars. It's a Slipstreamer Hellfire, but I would recommend the "Spitfire" as it looks better. My bike has weirdo '82 square bars that no clamp can attach to, so the shield comes with the "square bar adapter" (see my gallery for instructions).

All these are is an adapter that screws into the mirror mounting points. Raises your mirrors about an inch and the bar for the windshield goes into the cylinder of the adapter. Like what Wwj is talking about, but if you ask for them they will send them, you don't have to make 'em.

Go to this link(not an endorsement, just info, but I am a more or less satisfied customer)

    http://www.slipstreamer.com/Product/Sport/sport.html

and click "hardware" then look at the list, "square bar kit" is what I'm talking about, you don't have to actually have square bars to use it.

The square bar kit seems the best option for me at the moment--especially since it appears I could experiment using Wife''s Slipstreamer windshield, and get a better idea of what size I want before I buy.

I think the Riffle would suit what I'm looking for a lot better than most fairings. Once I get the paint on the rest of the bike where I want it I may consider that.

Oh, yeah. Don't forget the right mirror is reverse threaded. I think the square bar adapter comes with two normal and one left-hand part, but you might ask wherever you end up getting it, to make sure they know you need a reverse thread adapter.

Ordered a square bar adapter...but the struts that came with Wife's Spitfire shield won't reach the mirror mounts.

From looking at Slipstreamer's website, the Hellfire's struts are longer, but with a ball and socket joint, and all the windshields that use those struts are 4 point mount...and none of those are listed as fitting mySeca. The only things listed for Seca require removing the bar covers. So far the local dealers I've tried have the same Slipstreamer catalog.

Not a complete loss though--the adapter puts the mirrors in a better location for my height, and seem to reduce vibration.

Yeah, I looked at Slipstreamer's site, the connecting bars do look shorter than on my Hellfire, which is in fact a four point mount up. I was thinking the long bars from a hellfire would work on other shields, if that's not the case...maybe something could be fabbed up? Hellfire won't fit a Seca, huh? Weird, it just attaches at the forks and mirrors. I wonder what's in the way.

I wound up with a National Cycle Street Shield. 4 point mount, lower struts hose-clamp to the fork uppers. For the Seca, there are a couple of extra parts required. One of these is a sturdy L bracket that is held on with the mirrors. The other part connects the strut to the L bracket--similar to the one that comes with the windshield, but with a shorter bolt.

If I hadn't liked the raised position of the mirror with the Slipstreamer adapters, I might be concerned with the thickness of the L bracket not leaving enough threads engaged, especially since my right side mirror hole has damaged threads (apparently from someone trying to mount a non-reverse-thread mirror). Since the bracket is just about the same thickness as the jam nut from the adapters, I removed the nut. (this still leaves the mirror's jam nut for position adjustment)
