The XJ400 you have was a Japanese model but the FJ600 and XJ 600 of the same year have fork oil capacities of 270ml 10w oil.

There is a measurement of 149mm "With the springs removed and the forks compressed" according to the Haynes manual. Again, for the XJ600

Changed seals yesterday, and poured into the fork oil so that I have an air gap of 149mm, but the forks still feels spongy.
Either I get the amount of oil with a much smaller air gap and vice versa ..
    Anyone have a clue?

I got in about 240 ml into each fork with 149mm air gap
with the springs removed and the forks compressed..
i use 15w fork oil, should I try to pour more oil?
