side stand switch is likely dirty or going bad. with the side stand down try pulling the plunger out and see if it allows you to start in neutral. you can try spaying out inside the plunger boot with some lubricant to clean it out and see it that helps. if not you will likely have to replace the switch.

It sounds like the system is "reacting" to the sidestand switch correctly; the problem is, it doesn't know it's in neutral.

Your problem is with the NEUTRAL switch or its wiring. Otherwise it wouldn't be responding to the position of the sidestand.

Locate it; check its wiring (more likely culprit) put a meter on the leads and test it; flush it out...

Your sidestand switch is behaving as it should, telling the bike when the stand is down. It won't run with the stand down because it thinks it's IN GEAR. And that would be the job of the neutral switch.

Do you get the green "neutral" light?

Right. Which means it's just not "telling" the relay it is. The problem is in the wiring to/from either the sidestand relay or the safety cutoff relay; more likely the safety cutoff relay. You've eliminated the switch itself at this point.

You need a meter and the wiring diagram for your bike and you'll find it. You already know both the switches work.
