Received my parts ahead of schedule also, since some were supposed to be backordered, but Len managed to scoop them so I didn't have additional waiting time. Great service, got the stuff I needed in a timely manner. As a European resident (US Citizen), I really am glad XJ4ever is out there. Not sure I could have come by what I needed on this side of the Atlantic. I'll echo what the previous poster said about not being as prompt with posting my safisfaction as you were with the order. Hey, thanks for the parts! I would like to say that he did a great job. He had prompt responses to all the questions I asked. I ordered the parts on the 24th and received them on the 28th. Great job!


On a side note, the USPS didn't do a great job other than being fast. The box looked like it was dropped from the second floor onto a sidewalk... Twice. Luckily nothing was damaged.

Len and xj4ever are just amazing. I recently finished a total rehab on an '82 seca 550, so I've ordered tons of stuff from him - great prices and service, and hundreds of dollars worth of free technical advice. I've used 2 other online stores for xj550rj parts, and they were fine. But Len has the best service, parts , prices, and expertise by far. Seriously - this is a great business/service. I should have posted earlier, but I was covered in grease and dirt!

I don't want to sound like sour graps since every message between myself and the moderators has been first class BUT is there anything you can do to reduce the shipping charges for all of us outside the continental USA. I fear that once ordered the landed cost with shipping will be unreasonable. I have a list of items I would like to purchase to install over the winter and since this site is so important to my project I want to purchase from here. Perhaps chacal could recommend what method of shipping from him to Canada and elsewhere in the world is the most cost effective. I see that two of us are from Nova Scotia Canada ( hello bluenosers lol ) and someone from Denmark ( hello Denmark ) - perhaps someone can explain the best way to get things - speed of delivery is not always important during a restoration since if you know approx when it will arrive you can order accordingly but total landed cost is. Someone told me that ordering and having shipped via US postal service can often mean no customs inspection on smaller goods - this is the kind of info that I would like to obtain and share so the people behind this great site can obtain the orders they should have. I have no doubt that all the positive comments here are 100%

Hey yamaman, you are correct, shipping via postal service is the least expensive and you will not have to pay BROKERAGE fees to Canada postal for clearing the shipment thru Canadian CUSTOMS (non-governmental carriers, such as UPS/Fed-Ex/etc. are charged a fee by govt. to clear thru CUSTOMS, and that fee is passed on to you)............but, be aware that BROKERAGE fees are not CUSTOMS DUTIES (import fees, taxes, duties, whatever they call them) and those you typically have to pay on any inbound (imported) shipments.

So, to summarize:

BROKERAGE FEES: none thru the postal system, always charged via other carriers, and can be quite expensive.
IMPORT DUTIES: almost always (although low-dollar-value shipments may not incur any import fees).
SHIPPING CHARGES, INSURANCE, ETC.: varies by carrier and size/weight of shipment. Postal service is typically by far the cheapest for items that will "fit" thru their system.

 

the St. Lawrence river might be a little wider and colder than the Rio Grande but the same principals apply

I have an Australian 1991 XJ600s Seca II that has a rod poking out the side of the engine.

I am trying to work out if it's worth shipping a second hand engine from the US as the local guy here is trying to rape my wallet.

Do you have such a thing or do you only have new?

Either way, I need a price please on either a second hand or a new engine and an approximate shipping cost to Perth, Western Australia.
