when starting,lights/gauges are on..when started they go off

    when i go to start my xj 650 maxim the lights are on and then when it starts the gauge lights and headlight go off...any advice?

    Nothing a multimeter and a bit of patience wont get to the bottom of.

    Depending on what year there is a headlight relay somewhere in the system. I would look for that and test it.

    Diagrams are awesome ...thanks. because the gauge lights are going out also im suspecting maybe ignition? i will check for a relay tho. im not sure if the headlight is suppose to go out while starting then come on when started like some older bikes i own
