    I've been thinking of getting a tank bag to use on my weekend or daytrip excursions.

    Does anyone use one, any suggestions, any fit our bikes better tahn others? any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Massimo

    I have two, both made by Cortech. Both are "magnetic" attached.

    I have a "mini" which I use for daily commuting;

    and a much larger (14L IIRC) version that I use for trips.

    I hav a MotoCentric that I picked up from a pawn shop. Works great. It's about the size of a book/backpack my kids use. It's good for the daily commute. It's not big enough for a change of clothes but is good for tool kit, extra cables, lunch, gloves and glasses (and a IPod if you have one).

    I have two Rapid Transit bags. They look like the Recon model. Mine are held on using straps, one around the neck and one under the seat. The one I use all the time on the ST1100 is an 11 liter bag. A good size to hold a CB radio and a 20oz Coke along with a few other items. My other one is at least twice that size. I can carry a full set of Frogg Toggs with room to spare in it. The both have map pockets on the outside (very helpful if using a map) and an MP3 player pouch. They also have rain covers that actually work. I don't remember the models but I know they aren't made any more. I have not tried to put one on the Maxim but just be mindful of the gas cap.

    Thanks for the input, it gives me a starting point and a few companies to look at.

    This reminds me, I haven't used a tank bag, because I'm worried about scratching paint on the tank(even though I have bungied a sleeping bag on there before). But has anbody managed to put one of those leather tool bags on an XJ with the square headlight and auxiallary light? I put one on briefly, looked like I had enough room, but actually riding the bike it gets smashed against the fender.

    I'd like to be able to carry tools(even though they'd probably get stolen if I left it parked downtown sometime) and I'm missing the cover on the under-seat tool kit(and the tool kit itself, not that I want it) I guess I answered my own question :eek: Time to find that piece I'm missing.

    So i ended up going with an expandable bag from Fasttrax, which I found at a local bike shop by me. Its magnetic, fairly roomy in the smaller size and even more so with it unzipped, it has a nice clear panel for maps or GPS or....
    and is magnetic as well as it doesn't cover the gas cap and feels alright when riding.

    I usually carry an old backpack like Pollock's bag as well, but this is nice for all the small stuff I don't want in my pockets or stuff I want to get at easier than taking the straps off the pack.

    All in all a nice little tank bag, more than happy with it.
