About to go re-thread these two wiring bundles to the headlight bucket. Need to know how they pass through and route after the "hoop" that hangs down below the lower triple clamp.

Under the hoop, then through it and up, or through and up, etc....for some reason I can't quite make sense of it. I guess through and up makes more sense...I just wanna be sure. Don't wanna split all that wiring again if I don't need to...

They go through the hoop and then up and into the bucket. If you criss cross them going through the hoop and then up they will match up better with what each wire bundle attaches to within the bucket. (so one wire bundle goes in the bottom hole of one side of the head light bucket and the other wire bundle goes through the bottom hole in the other side of the headlight bucket.

If my explanation didn't make sense, I can snap some pictures when I get home later.

Thanks Dan, I think I got it now. Man it looks better without those wiring bundles draped where they shouldn't be.

Felt confident enough that I'm done fiddling with these carbs for a while, so I went ahead and put the airbox boots back on...killed two birds while the tank and seat were off.

Runs even better with a little restriction on the front end. Pretty happy with it now.

Don't know if it's been brought up before, or if there's other methods, but I came up with a way to make replacing those boots less frustrating. That's the single thing I hate more than anything else on a bike.

I let 'em sit in the sun a while to warm up, then doused them with WD-40 inside and out, then kneaded them in my hands until they were really soft and compliant...and turns out it was no huge struggle to get them back in place.

Now why didn't I think of that 25 years ago? LOL....

Glad you got the wiring figured out - I know what you mean about getting the airbox boots back on - what a pain. I'm still struggling to get my bike idling before I put the airbox boots back on - Had the carbs off twice tonight - starts out idling fine then for no explanation goes to 3000 or 4000 rpm's and doesn't want to come back down. So now I'm chillin' smokin' a cigar and contemplating life :)

That's what mine was doing, kind of...except it was more like 5-6k...that was after I had the carbs off once because it wasn't starting cold without spray ether.

I never did figure out what I did wrong, but I had to take them back off again because the cold start problem was still there...turns out I underestimated how crapped up the little pickup tubes for cold start fueling and their little passages were...then I discovered that those are somehow related to the (venturis?)...the big openings at the top of the carb throats...I'm still not 100% on how these carbs work, exactly...but apparently crap in the air drawn in there will end up down in those wells and tubes...started making sense because they were clear before and it started and idled fine, then after riding it a little without the airbox hooked up it got hard to start.

It looked like the kind of silt I'd expect to see from a little run down our dusty gravel roads...and I noticed a way to see how completely off these float levels were as well, and do a rough set on them while I was in there (see "heretic" thread for explanation)...but anyway, after all that, when it went back together it was running great, idling normal, and starting easily.

Whatever the problem was, I corrected it, apparently...still it's better when you understand WHICH PART of what you did solved the problem...
