Well I got my 1982 Yamaha xj550r today. She's a mess haha. Gotta see if she will start this week. Need to get a solenoid. Pray that the engine has compression haha. Guy I bought it from says it did, but who knows.

That's about the shape mine came to me in, and it's been progressing nicely, I just keep plugging along, putting a couple of hours a day into it, seems like nothings really happening but little by little my constant fiddling pays off...it's come a long ways in the 5 or 6 weeks I've had it.

Considering I started out with a non-runner that hadn't fired in at least four years and missing all kinds of pieces, yesterday I rode 30 miles (still no plate or inspection) and it did great.

Your engine castings and side covers look real good, should clean up nice!

Looks like a long road ahead of you but should be a fun project and a great bike once it's done! Welcome to the forum!

XJPilot echos my thoughts......that looks the way most of mine looked when I first got them....you'll be fine.....just take your time and remember, it's a whole lot easier to do it right the first time than it is to go back in once the tools are put away!! LOL

    Welcome to the club!!

Looks like mine too :) I'm still working on getting mine running right but am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just work on it a little at a time and walk away when you get too frustrated:)
