I just picked up a 1981 xj650 and the left turn signal doesnt work in the front or back. The guy said they worked about a month ago. Figuring its an electrical problem so i took a look. All wires seem to be in place (im also a noob) and im using the haynes manual for reference but its still a bit confusing. Any suggestions or page numbers??

I've had trouble with the contacts inside the blinker switch housing being corroded. (I'm talking about the housing on the handlebar that you physically use to switch the blinkers on and off). Take that apart and clean up the contacts and connections with some electrical contact cleaner and maybe a little elbow grease - make sure everything is moving smoothly and hopefully that will fix your problem. Also even though all the wires seem to be in place, it doesn't mean that the connections in the wiring harness are not corroded - If the above doesn't fix your problem, look into those connections (pull apart, clean, put dielectric grease in and put back together.)
