xj 700 carbs rich

    :D :D hi guys my maxim x ive been told is running rich she starts fine runs&goes great no problem the only thing is when i start her i give it full choke & have to push the choke off when it is started & hold the throttle open untill she is warmed up then it ticks over nice i have balanced the carbs but still the same any one got any ideas :D thanks

    That doesn't sound like a rich problem at all. These bikes need choke to start and the choke should be left on until the engine warms up. If it didn't need choke to start then that would signal a rich idle mixture. I there any particular reason someone has told you that it runs rich?

    not really i asked our local bike shop as it would start without choke they just said it was running rich and there was:nt much they could do so i have left it like it i just hold the throttle until its warm..

    Only way to really know is to check with a colortune plug. I would check the air filter for any restriction and a plug check is good idea. When riding if the bike seems to run a little better as you just slightly roll on the throttle then that shows a rich condition. If it runs sightly better when slightly backing off the throttle then that show a lean condition.

    the bike runs fine just i cant leave it to run on choke last week end i done a 360 mile round trip with no problems its just that dam choke :evil: :evil: :p
