So I had some trouble with the 550 after cleaning the carbs. I pulled them again, and as I was carrying them to the bench I pushed up on the pistons. They felt funny.

And on the bench I found the piston springs...

I decided to check the little jets anyway and found one of them completely buggered. Now, to find a tiny Easy-out...

Ha Ha-don't be too hard on yourself there, bro! Everybody has made a bone-head error at some point. I installed the floats upside down once on mine. As they say, live & learn...

I managed to fold-over a corner of a diaphragm first time thru my carbs.
This gave me a perfect idling and running bike, but the 4th cyl wasn't helping much at full throttle. Didn't find the problem for weeks.

We have all been there with something, somewhere, somehow. Just one of the perks of turning wrenches.

The key is being able to laugh at yourself and not get pissed over it. I used to get so angry back in the day....of course forgetting something during a race is critical but I used to expect the same 100% accuracy at home, and that just ain't happening. Two weekends ago I go to a friends house to tune his newly aquired '75 H2.....and after pulling the tops of each carb to ensure the needle retainer/spring seat was in the correct position to keep the cable locked into position, I forgot to install one of the springs before connecting the cable to the slide...till I began to install it on his bike<LOL>.....I laughed about he and he commented that he gets mad when he does that.....I guess he hasn't learned yet......
