air mixture screws washer

    Would the absence of this washer mess up the air mixture adjustment ?

    I have been running rich and have now found out that it seems that the washer was missing !

    Could this be the reason or is the job of this washer only to be a flat surface between the spring and o ring ??

    The washer is going to give the oring a nice flat contact surface for the spring to push on. Don't think it would make all that much difference. Is just that plug running rich or are there other cylinders running rich?

    No, the three other cylinders are fine, this has been a on going problem which I have not been able to sort out, tried most suggustions about running rich but decided to have another go and found the washer missing, but did not think this was going to be the solution to the problem.
    Somewhere on the carb too much fuel is getting through so I am re-checking wet height levels ( on a new jig I have made ) floats / needle valves etc.

    You should replace the missing washer though. If your float levels are right. Double check the sealing washers under the main jets. Sometimes they bend in a cup like shape and let gas go around the outside of the emulsion tube. Just a thought.

    I had a similar problem with one cylinder rich. I had also checked the wet clear-tube setting which looked good. Finally, I decided to set the floats to factory specs using a float gauge (.63 in for my XJ700N), and found the floats to be off a good bit. After setting them the wet clear-tube settings were still within spec and my rich cylinder went away. When you do the wet check, make sure there are no air bubbles in the tube.

    I would think that the pilot screw rubber o-ring would be damaged without the washer and might not seal correctly.

    I agree with tabaka45.....this assembly is critical to a smoth operating carb

    Update......

    Replaced the missing washer and using my new jig re-set the float levels until they where spot on, and guess what........richness was gone.

    Not only that but massive increase in power, need now to dial the plugs in and we are done.

    Shows how important those levels are, as everyone keep saying. :oops:

    nothing special just a wooden stand with two alli bung which the carbs push on to - allowing me to work easily on a bench whilst ensuring they stay level. It is also high enough to allow me to unscrew the bowls and make any adjustment.

    Sorry, let me explain....

    two aluminium bushes which I have turned on a lathe, bolted on a wooden frame which the 1st & 4th carb push onto, which allows me to check the float level.

    Same idea as this.....
