Hey guys, I finally decided to create a profile on here. Have been reading up on the forum since I bought my XJ about 3 weeks ago. So much great information on here. This is my first bike and I am super excited about it. Bike has about 14k miles on it and since I have owned it have been trying to correct some of the problems with the bike. Some of the main things were the plugs were the originals to the bike (YIKES) and the oil had not been changed in 5+ years. (previous owner used the only change it after 3K miles mentality. He owned it for 5 years and only put on 2k miles. Shame.) Since fixing those two things the bike is idling much better now. Still not as well as I would like so the Carbs probably need sync'd and tuned based on what I am reading on here, just not sure if I am mechanically inclined enought to tackle that undertaking.

    Welcome aboard!

Don't forget to check your back brakes for delamination. oh yeah and check your valve clearances as well before worrying about your carb sync. Without having your valves in spec you'll spin your wheels trying to get the carbs synched properly. It's not a tough job, bigfitz has a great howto in the 'faq suggestion' site... In fact, here it is --> http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14827.html

    Welcome to the board!
I am also a first-time XJ owner, and I will tell you you're definitely in the right place. I've learned so much on this forum, like:
    Definitely check your rear brakes!
Congrats on the purchase, and have fun riding in ny. You have beautiful country up there.

@Mendon- Thanks, the area up here is definately beautiful, don't discount your area thou. I have family in the Lancaster area and that's where I learned to ride. Great scenery there as well.
