    According to Amazon the correct NGJ plus is bp8es but the one in my bike now is bp7es. Mine is threaded while 8 is your typical connection. Which is correct?

    Main thing is what Bike are you applying this on? according to the NGK book My bike is the bp7es which in the box has the usual connection type. This is easily unthreaded to match what is on the bike. Most likely what is in the bike is the correct plug.

    Sorry, thought my sig was showing it. It's a 85 Maxim 700.
    So the ends screw off to reveal the threads?

    If you go to Amazon and punch in my model, it says bp7es will not fit my bike, but the 8 will. Strange.

    B=14mm
    P=projector type
    7 or 8 = heat range
    E=19mm reach
    S=standard center electrode

    Heat range goes from low number (2 or 3) being hottest, to high number (8 or 9) being coldest.

    Sometimes people will put a hotter plug in to correct a rich condition instead of tuning the carbs properly.

    according to NGK's website for your bike it should be the BP8ES. If your unsure double check with your owner's manual, mine list's the NGK plug from the factory.

    What tskaz was showing is that the only difference between a BP7ES and a BP8ES is the heat range. So both plugs will fit the bike. The 7 is one step hotter of a plug than the 8. Since the books say the 8 is the OEM plug, it would appear that someone before you has replaced the plugs with a hotter plug.

    I'm still confused about the threaded connections though. These definitely don't come off to expose the threads, so is it possible only the 7 has that ability? Or is it that the previous owner broke the ends into the plug wire boots?

    That I am unsure about. Some of the plugs with mine I had to take pliers to to get the caps off. But obviously don't break the plugs. Might have to see if some of the other guys with the bigger motors have more experience with the BP8ES plugs.

    All modern plugs (that I am aware of) have a threaded end. Some brands will come with the ball end for automotive plug wires already screwed on, others will not. You can remove them by using pliers on the connector and holding the plug in your hand. Motorcycle plug wires use a semi-ratcheting connector that engages the threads on the plug end, which makes for a more secure (and vibration-proof) connection.
