Having a minor setback with carbs. As I was cleaning the carbs, I found that the 2 of the pilot mixture screws are totally stripped out. I hope and pray I can extract them with minimal damage. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx

    Hi Jdb,
I fixed one in my Hitachi 32mm carbs... it wasn't pretty!

It started off that I got a really, really tiny ezy out and drilled a hole in the mixture screw with the intention of pulling it out...

    When that failed...

I ended up drilling it out as far as I could without hitting the thread in the carb and then a Dentist pick with a lot of messing around was used to collapse the mixture screw into shards (brass is brittle) and ... then
finally I used a tap from chacal to clean out the threads/re-thread them and put in stainless steel mixture screws, also from chacal.

All of this was done with the carbs completely stripped and originally I tried heating the carb body up also, with CRC flushed all over the area.

You wouldn't know I did it now. But it is something that could end up badly if you don't take your time.

    Good luck!

Thanks CDS for the info! I made up my mind to go slow with this bike so if it takes two years to get my bobber the way I want it. That's fine. I know I wouldn't have a chance without the help from this forum. Nobody up here in the mountains has a XJ. Most of the older bikes are harley's or honda Cb's.

I have some extra carbs - I'm sure we can work something out if you need one. Just PM me and let me know.
