Recentlu i knoticed when I put the bike in first gear there is quite a "chunk" from the engine and a noticiable bump - is it just a clutch adjustment? or something worse?

How fast is it idling when you shift it? Engine warm or cold? What oil are you running.

Clutch adjustment; and what oil are you running?

(Bear in mind that 1500 is a tad high and some degree of "clunk" is normal, especially when the trans is still cold.)

Idle RPM should be 1050. 1500 the transmission would make a clunk when you put it in gear.
