I rode my 82 maxim 650 yesterday and it ran great and I got up this morning and it would not start it turns over but nothing happens I noticed that when I put it in gear and hold the clutch the bike can barely move but it still wont start in neutral if someone can give me some ideas that would be great

The following questions may seem stupid but I'm asking anyway!
    Do you have any spark?
Is the neutral light on when in neutral?
Also check the side stand safety switch. If its bad nothing is going to work.
Oh yes do you have power to everything when you turn on the ignition switch.
Are your brakes releasing? If the brakes are sticking the bike will be had to move.

I think that's all of the stupid questions!

Maybe water in the gas. Open the drain on one of the float bowls and see what comes out.

The clutch is subject to the cold oil it's sitting in and unless the bike is running it will feel like a mild brake anytime you are trying to roll the bike in gear.

Good starting procedure which always works for me:
Always switch your petC to prime for a few seconds before you try and start, then full choke and don't just crank away. If it doesn't start on the first 5-7 revolutions, stop & wait a few seconds then repeat. Once running open the throttle to get the vacuum going and should be all good.

Be sure and check the obvious things first-I was riding in heavy traffic the other day when it was hot and my bike started to sputter and cough, I was scared it was overheating as it was really hot and I had been stuck below 10mph for about 10min. Finally it died and sounded just awful when it did. I pulled off the road and began to contemplate walking home and coming back to pick up the bike. Then I looked down and realized I was at 110miles on the OD and still at 'on' as in 'no gas'! Oops, basic stuff but we all forget sometimes.

Mikey; howzabout a little more background on this bike?

"first bike build in progress" leads one to believe there may be modifications involved--

how about giving us a tad more to go on? Miles, mods, your history with the bike, etc. It all helps. It's even MORE helpful if you could put it into your sig so we don't have to keep asking.
