hey all. just saying hi. i just registered and posted a no start question.
i just picked up an 81 750 seca for my wife as an anniversary gift. i have no experience with yamahas but have been into harleys for a while. i have two sportsters. a 67 xlch ironhead and a 2005 1200 custom, both heavily modified by me.

Wow, good shape (the wife and the SECA) ;). Welcome to the site!

I notice the SECA has a newer valve cover, same as I plan on doing with my 81 (using one from my old 650 Maxim)

    Thanks guys!

Oh yeah? Anything special about it or just for looks? Good to know, thanks. Yeah, through all of my troubleshooting i am finding alot of tinkering. Wires unplugged and jumped (i found one was the battery level, one for sidestand Nd maybe the center too)

If the sidestand switch is bad, it has to be jumped to bypass it. (Common.)

That bike has original rubber brake lines. Danger. They were supposed to last 4 years. Caliper and master seals TWO.

And don't turn your lovely bride loose on a 130mph bike with 30-year old brakes.

Assuming you can make it run. (You've got a lot of work to do that you haven't even discovered yet.)

Welcome to the 30-year old Yamaha club. We'd have jackets, but we're too broke from buying parts.

Riight. That's not happening. My '81 took me about 4 1/2 months just to get safe and rideable; my '83 took 11 months.

A 30-year old bike with low mileage SAT for quite a while. On top of that, most of these bikes have been pretty much neglected, maintenance-wise.

You've got some work to do. It IS worth it if you stick to it and do it right.
