What does the P stand for on the the ignition switch? I recently selected this option for the first time and kept it there all night. In the morning, it wouldn't start.

P = Park. It left your tail lights on and the battery is now dead.

I think we all have at least once. It was what prompted me to renew my ignition switch decal (so I could SEE the "P.")

You'll note I said "at least" once. Not "just." The new decal only helped.

haha, I did that last week.. Parked in front of a friends house and turned the key too far. I always lock my steering, but am usually real careful not to put it into 'P'.

Eh, a quick embarassing jump start and yer back on the road. lol

Haha! Thanks all! My P was faded as well and didn't even know it existed. I thought nothing of it when I turned it pass the lock position. After I learned that the P was there I assumed it meant Park but wasn't sure why it wouldn't start in the morning. Asked a neighbor for jump cables and it started up, now it's resting with a tender hooked up.

What's the point of it keeping your tail lights on?

To make the bike more visible in low light conditions when you "park" it briefly. Helps so some yahoo flying into a parking lot can see the light first before hopefully not plowing over your ride...

It's a required feature elsewhere in the world; Yamaha didn't bother to do away with it for our market.
