I just picked up an 83 750 Midnight Special and about the only thing I dont care for is the stock bars on it.

What bars have you guy put on your Maxims, please post pics and why.

    Thanks

Very nice clean bike, but are you certain it's a Midnight? Not many (any) gold accents?

lots of silver where there should be black and gold. Either it isn't a midnight or there has been a lot of part replacing/striping/painting on it.

midnight bike should have a vin that starts with jya33n for a US delivered bike if it is from another country may be different
standard 750 would be jya22r again for US bike

hmmm Ill have to check. I thought the black exhaust and motor was a give away.....but then again I thought the only way you got a 750 was a midnight

Thats definitely not a MIDNIGHT maxim. The midnight has black fenders, fork lowers, gauge cluster housing, headlight bucket, handlebars, mirrors, final drive, turn signals, etc. Along with gold wheels, grab rails, Carb hats, headlight trim, swingarm caps, and side covers, etc.
It is however a decent looking 750 maxim

You think those bars are ugly, you should see what the '82 Maxim 750 has. Apparently in Japan, 1982 is the year of the square. Square head light, square turn signals square mirrors, square handlebars. I'm not kidding either. Here's a random pic when I was mounting GPS.

They are adjustable though, so that's kind of cool, I guess.

Mine are similiar on a 750 and 900 both 83's [seca in the US] but not as steep an angle on the riser, dont like the fact that you can't use any other bar [no clamps]but must admit when you take the time to adjust them to suit you they are VERY comfortable.
How did you actually mount the gps?I've got one but am not willing to drill through the bar to mount it.

    Still have the stock ones.
Even though they are a bit tough on the eyes, I find the stock '82 Maxim handlebars quite functional and comfortable once adjusted to personal preference.

You're correct - they are very functional - but the "tough on the eyes" part has won over - I'm replacing mine this week.

Are those Ape Hangars on that thing? Just kidding....

Even though I have an 85 Maxim X, I'm providing some shots to give you a few ideas.

Oh, yeah, the square bars are totally comfortable and functional, I don't plan to get rid of them, but I know why someone would. I kind of like all the weirdness and 80's features, like the Atari dashboard, actually.

To answer GPS question. What I did is a typical maximike least effort method. That GPS came with a "swivel" mount that is gone, but the swivel attached to the black "holder" that I still have, that is holding the GPS. I drilled a couple holes in the holder, and used a couple big plastic wire ties and wrapped those around the handlebar near the grip and around one of the windshield mounting bars that go to the mirror mount.

Then, I installed a power outlet on the bike, like a cigarette lighter, and ran the GPS's power (here is where the square bars are cool, there is a cover on the bottom that covers cables and you can take it off and hide wires there) cable thru the bars and under the tank and side cover to where the plug is. Totally invisible, and no batteries needed. I can still unsrew cable from the GPS and take it off if I want.

Nice thing is, since the power cable screws into the back, I don't have to rely on that little clip on the "holder" keeping the GPS in place. Because it doesn't;) I used to just use batteries, until I got the cable installed, and on a dip getting on the Morrison bridge here in Portland, I felt something hit my groinal region, looked down and GPS was in my lap, lol. Managed to get ahold of it and put it back in holder before it hit pavement.

I prefer the Rental Street-fighthers as they have the least amount of pullback. The reach is a little further forward for a cruiser style bike so I added 15mm risers in combination with those bars, creating a slightly more relaxed (upright) riding position. I have less outer palm soreness after an extended ride compared to the other style bars with more pullback.

I got these from TC Bros. I'm not totally in love with them but they grew on me after a couple days & they're definitely different! The only issue I had was the brake line is too short to stand them up so they're leaned forward a little further than I would like until I get the new longer SS brake line installed.
