I have a nice original low mileage 1982 Seca 550. Bike ran when I bought it but it was obvious the fuel system needed a going through after sitting for so long with no use. Instead of messing with the old jets, I just bought all new jets for the entire bank. So today I ripped into the carbs and replaced the mains with no problems. I soaked the pilots with penetrating oil prior to taking them out as I've had issues with pilots before in the past. Well guess what? I could not get two of the pilots out and stripped the slots. Sooooo, is there anyway to get these stripped pilots out? I did put the bank back together and ran the bike and it does run better but is still hitting on three at idle. Do I have any options in saving my bank of carbs?

    Thanks in advance.....

HI,you could try heat from a butane torch and a left hand drill bit.

    Yep. With GREAT CARE.

How many miles on the bike? You'll need to check and adjust the valves before you can sync the carbs; and float levels are beaucoup important on the Mikunis. You've only got one millimeter plus or minus on the wet-set.

Invest in some Kroil; you're going to need it: http://www.kanolabs.com/google/

My nice original 550 Seca is an '81; my not-so-original 550 Seca is an '83.

If you really want it to perform the way these bikes did originally, go through it from top to bottom. Get the factory book, and go through the "maintenance" section starting from the beginning and don't leave anything out or skip anything. Take no shortcuts; they will bite you.

    It's worth it. (My '83)

Is there such a thing as a mini-EZ-out?

Bike has 8800 miles. Very nice original. Very, very clean.

Just thought I'd throw in my $0.02, because I recently removed torn-up and stuck-in jets from an old XJ650 rack I have.

Use an easy out. VERY carefully drill down into the stuck jet following the fuel passage down the middle. Take your time! After you do that, use an easy out and slowly work the jets out. Kroil or any other lubricant greatly helps in this process.

Just use the smallest easy out and appropriate drill bit so you don't accidentally drill through the threads in the carb body.
