The needle on the tach started acting strange the last ride I did.
Below 2000, it is normal, but at around 2500, it will peg at 10000, and stay there till I drop back to idle, and sometimes it takes a rap on the gauge to get it to go back down.
Anybody ever have this happen to them?
Anybody know why it acts that way?
    Thanks, CZ

Isn't it a sign of trouble with the reg/rec?
Possibly a dirty connection or about to go capput?

Well, since the parts interchange site says that the regulator from an XS 11 will work, I'll try that, since I have one.
Hope it works. I will take a look at the brushes while I'm at it.
    Thanks for the reply. CZ

Could you let us know the result either way?

I never knew what the cause was, but my 82 exhibited very similar symptoms. Irritating, and no one was ever able to give me much help here with it (one of the only issues that I've seen that be the case with here, mind you).

My knoweldge on gauges is minimalistic, so I'll exit here, and just leave with a pat on the back and feeling of solidarity. Good luck, let us know what fixes it.
