I have a friend that is looking far and wide to find a Seca with the helmetbox/rack/fairing/Saddlebags-hardpanniers-whatever you call them. He'd also be willing to buy them separate from the bike. He's willing to consider flying almost anywhere in the US.

Starting in '83, this was the standard way the bike was sold. Before that, it was only optional.

    Anyone know of any?

I'll bump this occasionally hoping to get lucky, if that's alright. Feel free to ignore if you have nothing to add.

There was a guy on CL in Cedarburg (Milwaukee) WI with a really clean 750 Seca with a complete Yamaha touring package. The bike was low mileage and looked to be completely stock...I know I've seen it within the last couple of weeks, but when I looked just now it was gone. I think he wanted around $1800, like I said, was a nice bike...just more money than I was willing to spend.

I think my friend and I saw it while it was up... Wish it were still available. Thanks for the tip, though. At the time, my friend was courting one for $950 in Oregon. He had a week bout of depression over some stuff with his son moving away, though, dropped the ball, and when he got back to the buyer, it was sold and the WI one was gone.

    Bummer.

Let me know if you see anything else like it, or if it shows up again.

Hi Fin Tip, I have a 1981 Yamaha XJ 750 Seca R with the full windshield, fairing, second passenger seat padded back with rear box with lights, and the side Vetter hard cases possibly for sale. The front fairing does have the round headlight and the paint on all is Red metalflake. I believe that these all came with the bike originally. I can email you a pic of the bike with all on it. The cases all have locks with keys ect. 81' 750 XJ Seca R. Due to the fact that my bike is going to cost me a considerable sum to go through this winter from front to rear I think I would sell mine if the price was reasonable. grunt007, Holly, Mi.

Maverikbr77, You know, you guys have so many different Nicks in here anymore and change them so much that I'm to the point where I never know just who I am talking to? I'm not so sure that this is good on this end since one of the purposes of a chat room like this is to build up repore between members so that to be honest it becomes sort of like a second home as to say when visited. I know you guys are a good bunch in here but I also know that when I am dealing with someone in this room I like to know that they are of a decent character and the only way I can get that feeling is when I am familiar with their (Nick that they use). Just something to think on from looking from the outside in. grunt007, 81'XJ750 Seca, Mi.

grunt007, that isn't a nickname, it's a "status" based on the number of posts. Username is the only distinguishing feature beside the avatar, which people do change but less frequently.

Right, the big bold word is your nickname--look at yours, it's Grunt007; then, beneath that, yours says "4th gear". Mine, instead of 4th gear, says "redliner". If you post enough, that will change to "5th gear" and then to "redliner".

Nicknames don't change. Avatars usually don't either.

By the way, the set he had to offer was a vetter setup. While my friend is still considering it, he was more interested in the Yamaha Factory setup and didn't realize that there was more than one type out there. So if anyone has the factory fairing and baggage set, feel free to still mention it.

Not so. There was a "standard" 750 Seca for the '83 model year; the factory colors were "Romanesque Crimson" and "Quartz Silver."

The factory "TourPak" was always an option. Quite often dealers outfitted them with color-matched Vetter packages.

Thats right Bigfitz, you tell him and I know that when it comes to Yamaha's you know your stuff. I have a catalogue someplace around here where it shows ordering the Vetter package with a new Yamaha 750Seca, thats why mine is a 81'XJ 750 Seca R. Makes sense to me :))))) Grunt007, XJ750 Seca R, 81' Mi.

Absolutely! And a dealer-installed option at that. Install directions were to remove the OEM rectangular headlight and bend the mounting "ears" in toward the steering stem to provide clearance for the fairing.

I was quoting from this review:

I could be misreading it, but also given the nature of the review, it seems to suggest Yamaha stopped marketing the bike as a sporty model and went for the 'sport touring' angle.

Interesting, though. Always more to learn.
