Hi Guys...i am getting some sputtering/popping out of my left side exhaust. I checked the compression when i first got the bike 140 pretty much in all cylinders. Haven't check my valves clearnaces (yet). Now my main question is the plus wires set correctly on this type of bike..The manual i have shows the 650 plug wires cross, one wire goes to the outer on the right, the other to the inner on the left. Another guy on here stated that one coil feeds the outer plugs, the other feeds the inner ones..My bike is set up where the left coil feeds the two plugs on that side..like wise the right side does the same..i had a guy redo the carbs, and # 2 float was sticking... another point when i start her up, and feel the pipes..that the # 2 exhaust is slow to warm up compared to the other three...going to check the pick up coil plate /and timing, and see if its loose ,(soon as the rain stops...never thought i would say i missed Florida....and as soon as i can get the Maxim road ready..im going for a ride.... a long one..Thanks for any wisdom.....

Cylinders 1-4 get one coil, and 2-3 get another coil. Firing order is either 1-2-4-3 or 1-3-4-2, either way, it's outer-inner-outer-inner.

You have to have the correct coil hooked up to the leads of the TCI too, or none of the cylinders will fire on the right stroke.

This file should help a bit. I know you're not swapping out coils, but page 7 should give you a hint as to which connector goes to which coil.

It never cease's to amaze me how things work so much better when they are where the are suppose to be... i had to add a spark plug exstension to get the wire from the 1-4 coil to reach the # 4 plug..., temp fix till i get some Dyna coils.... she sounds much better..i think i was only hitting on three..i could swear that he had the coils set to the two cyclinders below it..but you said she wouldn't run? She's running now....Thanks Guys....test ride time..

Definitely running stronger. He had the coils ( 1/4 - 2/3 ) wired correctly, but the plug wires going to the wrong plugs. I'm still getting a weird response out of # 2 cyclinder.. it's slower to warm up compared to the other three..i think i have a valve adjustment coming...anyway, thanks for the this the way its done stuff guys..

Have you gone through the carbs lately? Maybe something in the pilot circuit on that carb...

    The "Firing Order" is: (1-4) : (2-3)

    The 1 & 4 Holes fire simultaneously.
    Followed by the 2 & 3 Holes.

Post 25 year-old Bikes show a high incidence of Ignition-related miss-firing primarily due to:
    1. Coils
    2. Spark Plug Wires
    3. Fuse Panels
    4. Relays and Switches.

    Fuse Panels lead the parade.
Coils are rapidly becoming a persistent issue.
