there looks to be a cut out on the housing to accommodate the bolt underneath. what is the best way to repair this deficiency. order gasket, make gasket, or simply tighten? any warnings or special procedures I should be aware of?

Weird. We need a better pic. All of the earlier aircooled bikes just have a bolt head there, nothing tall enough to require a cutout in the cam chain tensioner body (which doesn't appear to be leaking.) We need a better pic of the leaking component. I've been all through the fiche for your bike and can't tell what it is.

after piddling with some brake cleaner and rags, the oil leak is not from the tensioner housing. I believe its the "lower mounting point for the rear cam chain guide," as you put it so well bigfitz. I believe you said something along the lines of, "DO NOT REMOVE IT!!" well, it was loose and thats where my leak was coming from.

could this be signs of larger issues to come? im concerned since ive grown quite fond of this $700 bike ive been riding every day for the past 4 months with absolutely no issues until now.
