Hello from southern Michigan. I am a vintage motorcycle addict.....Hi Steve.... I have had at least 350 motorcycles in the last 15 years and probably 10 of them have been XJ's. My favorite was my 82 Maxim 750 with 4 into 1 header. I just got the ultimate, a 1983 XJ900 Seca. I need a gas tank so I can ride it. And any other parts that might be decent: Right engine small round cover that says Yamaha, decent gauges with clear lenses, unpainted original color side covers or any original color stuff, fairing, etc. All would be an upgrade. Bike runs great with 28,000 miles. Contact: stevesearles@hotmail.com or call 269-781-7788. Thanks! Oh question, Will another model gas tank fit this 900 Seca???

    Hi Steve. . . 350 bikes. . . 23 a year habbit. . . no known cure. . .

There's only one other tank that looks close, it's on a chain drive 600 that looks alot like the Seca 900, but they are also very rare.

I have a tank off a 1983 XJ 900 White, someone placed it on my 84XJ750RL, Its not rusted too bad, but has a good dent across the top (might be able to be pulled?).

Steve, the FJ600 tank LOOKS close, but it is NOT a bolt-on fit. The only other tank that will bolt right onto you your 900 Seca will be a tank from the 1984 XJ750RL. That is the Canadian bike that never came here. Other than the color, the only difference is that the 900rk had the hooks on the lower front of the tank for the air scoops while the 750RL does not have the hooks, as they did not receive the scoops.

Of the approx. 1000 USA-delivered 900RK's, there are 62 that are currently registered on the XJ900RK Seca Database (USA-delivered only). I maintain the database. If you would be willing, I'd like to get your's registered if it's not already on. Please PM me, and I'll let you know what I need. There's NO cost to you at all.

    Thanks,

    Dave Fox

Welcome! 10 XJ's and only just joining?? :p

I presume you are aware of our resident parts man XJ4EVER?

As you may be aware, those tanks are notorious for rust because the rear of the tank is lower than the tap! Recommend regular emptying and/or adding a little metho friom time to time or the best option, get it lined...

ANY of the XJ series tanks have the potential for rust in the lower rear corners. They all have the petcock sitting higher than the bottom, so water can collect and get trapped. Every tank should be emptied occasionally, or at least tipped to one corner for water to pool and then have the corner siphoned out. That would get rid of almost all the pooled water, and then a dispersant added to remove the rest.
