how do i check my valves

    Hey guys, I got my bike not to long ago and going to be trying to get it up to spec over the winter. I rode it how I got it up until now.I know I need to check the valves but what other things should I check and how do I go about doing so. Im damn near completely near bike tarded...this is my first one. Thanks in advance

    You should invest in a good service manual also. It will cover everything needed to maintain your bike.

    I'm in the same boat, and I plan on doing at least brakes and valves this winter. I figure damage to the engine (valves) and myself (brakes) are more immediately important than proper tuning

    Actually, valve spec is an important FIRST step in proper tuning. So you'll be getting ahead of the game ryevans21.

    Also "more" important for "you" damage are the tires (older than 6 years should be tossed), and bearings, especially the steering head bearings. ANYTHING other than smooth lock to lock (with NO notch in the center) requires replacement.
