Ok, got an xj750. Just put new cold air filters on it. Started up fine. Then as I let it warm up it started idling real high when the choke was on. And when I stopped it, it took a second to start back up. And every now and then the starter would miss and just spun. Then sometimes the starter has a hard clank after it just spins.

It WILL idle real high as it warms up with the "choke" on. That means you slowly turn the choke off to bring the revs back down. Use the choke to hold it at about 2000rpms or so as it warms up; you'll need to keep gradually turning the choke off. It's not really a choke by the way; that lever actually opens enrichening circuits in the carbs, which has the same overall effect (more fuel) than a real choke (less air.)

What type of oil are you running? You need to be using motorcycle-specific oil, not car oil. That can and will affect the starter clutch.

I haven't done any oils yet. I have only had the bike a month and have been working on getting it running before I do all the oils. Another thing I've noticed is when it is warmed up with the "choke" off it will not idle, just dies.
