    Hello Everyone,

I put this in the General Forum but decided this is where it needed to be.

I am a new member, but I have used this site religiously to help me work on my 1982 XJ650 Maxim. I picked her up off of Craigslist and have been working on it. The carbs needed rebuilt, actually they still do, but I am over hauling the entire bike. I pulled off the back end, built a new support, and working on incorporating a new seat. I figured I would start posting on here so people could see what I was doing.

    1st picture - is what I bought
2nd picture - i took out the carbs. The boots were cracked, unfortunately one of the bolts broke off so this site really helped me. Took me forever but I fixed it.
3rd picture - still working on the broken bolt
4th picture - I bought a track seat for it and built a bracket underneath it. I am just fitting it at this point to make sure it will work

Currently I am putting new handlebars on it, new 4 into 1 exhaust, and rebuilding the carbs. I am going to start preping everything for paint as well.

I am going to have a lot of the items I took off for sale soon as well.

    Hello everyone,

I have been working on the bike. I got new handlebars on it, and I got my new 4 into 1 Mac exhaust on it as well. So far everything is going well. I panted everything this last weekend, but dropped it off to have a wet sand and buff done. I wanted a deep nice polish. So hopefully by this weekend I will get the tank and seat back on the bike.

I plan on overhauling the carbs on Thursday if everything goes well.

    Hope you all like.

Also, the original parts that were on the bike are now for sale in the market if anyone needs anything.

What handle bars did you choose? Keep the same controls are you get new ones too? Got a pic of the new seat?

I put on drag bars. I bought them from here:

    http://www.tcbroschoppers.com/index.php/xs650-chopper-and-bobber-parts/tc-bros-drag-bars-black-powdercoat-finish.html

They are great bars and worked really well. I kept the same controls on the bike. It took some work to make the master work. I loosened the bolt and changed the direction of the brake line. It works fine. I may in the future put a different master on, but for now it works great.

The seat is getting buffed, but it will be back on friday. I will post pictures then. This is the seat I bought if you are interested.

Another question about the handlebars...did you also get your clamps from TC bros? (sorry if it's a dumb question)

No I just used the clamps from the old bars. The old bars are 7/8 and so are the new bars.

    Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time since I posted here, but I did finish my build. I am attaching the last picture i took of it to show what it looked like. Unfortunately, the giant fire that Colorado had this summer claimed the motorcycle and everything else. I figured I would still show you all how it came out. It was a fun project. Thanks for all of your help, the great forums, and the parts chacal.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Oh man. That is awful. I hope it was just stuff and nobody was hurt? It might be a crazy thought, but would a frame be compromised by a fire? It would be kind of cool to start with that frame and build the bike again. Sort of a phoenix type deal.

Damn. That's terrible. Your bike looked great. Did you do the paint yourself? Where did you get the tail from? Seat?

    Did insurance cover the bike?

Hope all is well, one of my best friends lives in ft Collins, things got crazy out there with the fires.

Driving through poudre river canyon after the fire was a mind trip. Just crazy.
