Only been able to look at my bike as I walk into the house lately. Time change and all, I leave the house before the sun comes up, and get home long after it's gone down. Finally have a weekend off, so planning on working on her all weekend.
Ordeal is that the bike has no grips. I'm about ready to check my electrical work and see if she'll fire up. I've had dirtbikes in the past, and always used aluminum tube grips and had to work with small pulleys and such on my throttle. There's nothing of the sort on this bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated and suggestions. As always, chacal is the go-to for all parts, but I've been looking at several grips. So far, all I know after spending a minute with my dial calipers is the bars are 7/8.
    Thanks,
    Emily

The first pair I had, I got from JC Whitney, when I ordered a new seat cover. I needed to go over some price top get free shipping, so I added some foam grips. They kind of sucked. Next, I got some rubber ones with chrome on the ends from Cycle Gear. Look good, feel okay, but the chrome ends are just plastic, kinda cheesy. And eagle logo makes it look kinda Harley-ish. Which I don't like.

If you don't have grips, you're already past the hard part, removing the old ones. I find soapy water works pretty well for getting them on. Some people glue them, I never felt the need. Oh, I thought of something. On my bike that plastic tube on the accelerator grip needed some modification. I just broke off some of the plastic bits on the end, otherwise grips didn't go on right.

I put some granturismo grips on mid/late this year and really like the feel of them.

Whatever you do, don't get the cheap Chinese rubber/aluminum jobs. I got a set for my maxim. Threw them on mid summer. about 2 months of sun had degraded the rubber part to the point of the aluminum bits just falling off.

I guess they may be alright for a weekend-cruiser/garage-pet bike. I just don't like the idea of such shoddy material on a control point.

I expected little, and they still fell short. heh.

I agree the Grandturismo grips are a really good design. The cushion these really help on long trips. My wrists and hands don't get fatigued like they do on the other bikes that have the stock un-cushioned grips.

    Elmontg88,

X2 What they ^ said. E-bay...Granturismo's. Use a little "hair-spray" to help them slip on annnnnd....you may have to take a file and "lightly" shave the very end of your throttle grip in order for the right sleeve to seat completely. Hope this helps.

What about throttle tubes? I've seen grip/tube assemblies, but I've always used aluminum tubes. Any suggestions on that front? Mine is GONE, and I'm not sure how long it's been that way...

if you're missing the tube plastics, I'd just create a post in the buy/sell section of this forum. Short of that, I would think that certain grip manufacturers (pro grip, etc...) would have a replacement.

    Welcome to the site, btw!

x2, i think the tube plastics is what the op needs before thinking about hat grips specifically.

I also would mention that isopropyl alcohol works great for installing them, it dries faster than soapy water and doesn't glue them on like hairspray does. once you use hairspray, odds are you;re gonna have to cut them off.

I'm using a pair of granturismo grips on my bike. They are the most comfortable grips and still have a good look to them. I'll put them on every bike I own. Great while wearing thick winter gloves too. Highly recommended.

I feel obligated to let you know that I sold her an Atari guage cluster and her Paypal payment got reversed the same day the part was delivered. I e-mailed her about it right away and she said it was a mistake that she would resubmit the payment Wednesday night but I haven't gotten anything or heard back from her again yet. I had to send the tracking info to paypal to prove that I sent the item but as of now my paypal account is -$25 and I can't buy ANYTHING online unless I pay the extra $25 until it gets straightened out.

Hopefully just an honest mistake but I'm starting to feel like I'm getting screwed. I'll update this post if anything changes. :x

*** UPDATE - she e-mailed me and assured me that everything is getting straightened out with Paypal and I should have the payment soon. Looks like it was just an honest mistake - will update again with final resolution
