Hello,, I just purchase a 82 Seca 550. Ran great until I put gas into the tank.. Now the bike will idle but will not rev up when I turn the throttle.. It sputters a little, but nothing when the throttle is turned...Any help would be appreciated...

Tbone, welcome to the forum. We need more info than you have told us. Like how long it has sat and where it sat, inside or outside? Running fine til you got it home or did you but it as a non-runner? How many miles/kilomoteres? Where you are located, see how other people put info like that on the post.
We're here to help, but need more info.
    Cheers.

Opps,, sorry, I'm new to the forum,, The xj is stored outside under a cover. The guy I bought the bike from had the carbs rebuilt about 2 years ago along with a new stator being installed.. The bike ran great until this week. There are 7500 miles on the speedo..I live in the dry climate of the San Fernando valley in Calif... As soon as I fueled the bike and drove off, the Rpm's dropped to almost idle, barely limped home.. I checked the petcock, fuel is flowing good.......

Sounds like a hunk of debris has found its way into the carbs.

From your description of its past life and how it's stored, I'd be MORE worried about this than anything else: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html

As for getting it running right, you're going to need to catch up on the neglected maintenance. You have no way of knowing if the guy that rebuilt the carbs two years back actually knew what he was doing; and if the valve clearances have been ignored you've got 6 or 7 tight valves right now.

The next time you post for help, put it in "XJ Chat" this is the "Test Zone" for testing pic postings, etc.
