Those that have had the chance to make the comparison of a 650 to a 750, just how much of a difference in feel/performance is there? I am mostly curious about Maxim to Maxim and Seca to Seca comparison.

I can't believe nobody has replied here (yet).

I went from a 650max --> 750seca but haven't had time to stretch the newer bikes legs yet... I imagine the fact the engine is the same weight but has an extra 100 CC's should mean it will walk away from the smaller sized engine...

    Jp,

To my understanding a 750Max has about 15 more HP than a 650Max. So, yeah, although a 650 can walk pretty quick a 750 would walk away in good form. Don't know about the Secas.

I have no numbers to back my claims but there's quite a noticeable difference going by seat of the pants. I've never ridden a 650 Max but I can't believe it would be too much different from the Seca of the same displacement.

Yeah, rode a 650 max, friend just bought a 750 Seca, but haven't had the chance to stretch legs on it... Non functional front brakes. Hopefully making it out to Oregon next summer to work on it.

    MC,

Disclaimer: I DO NOT ENCOURAGE STREET RACING! Thought maybe I should post that before I reply. You said that like you left the 650 in the dust from the jump. How far did you race? Off the line 1~3 he should have stayed with you. You have more top-end, so, yeah I'd say going into 4th you should have started walking away. Have you checked out the 1100 vs 750 video? 750 shot out like a canon; I'm thinking had the rider on the 1100 tried that he probably wouldn't have made the trip (too much ass). I think the video says something like the 750 rider was in 5th (he is flyin') and the 1100 rider was going into 3rd or 4th when he passed the 750 rider. I know there's a much bigger difference between a 1100 and 750 but the difference is more in top-end speed (and rider skills of course). I don't think a 900 would dust a 750 off the line. Got a question...A 650 and 750 off the line race a 50 mile stretch. At the time they both top-out (wide open in 5th) to the end of the 50 miles how much of a distance will the 750 maintain over the 650? 100 more cc's, 15 more HP, a bit more ass. I like all the xj's on here. I love my 650.

As the owner of both, although one Seca and one Maxim, the 750 is stronger through the entire powerband. Again, I have no numbers to substantiate my claim, just experience on both.

To throw a wildcard in the mix a 550 Seca (and I would assume a Maxim) is pretty much dead even with a 650. The 550, while making less power and torque, is chain driven and 100 lbs lighter, give or take.

Sure is. More than 100lbs lighter. And stoplight-to-stoplight, Detroit city blocks, a 550 Seca will flat whup up on an XJ1100 too; the big bike simply doesn't have enough time to get all of its weight moving before it's time to grab the binders. Quite frankly, I was kind of surprised; the guy on the 1100 was less than thrilled.

Given the choice for all the bikes, which would you choose for a bobber? I know they try to cut the the fat, so that 100 pounds lighter makes a difference!

(I wanna get a bobber project one day! :) )

    Biggs500,

15 more HP through the entire powerband? Hmmmm. Didn't know that. I was thinking more like maybe mid 3rd and up. Nawh, my 650 can't mess with that. Sorry bout' that Mike. I still love my 650 tho'. El gato, although I have no intention of bobbing mine, IMHO any of the Maxims look good bobbed. I think the Secas look equally as good cafe'd. There are plenty of photos of both mods in the gallery.

The 15 hp number wasn't put out there by me. All I'm saying is the 750 at any given RPM is, or at least sure feels stronger, by how much only the dyno knows. Remember the adage "there's no replacement for displacement".

Now with that being said it's really immaterial who's or which bike is faster. They're all fun. :D

    Biggs500,

You're right....they're all fun. We were just having a little "fun". I thought MC would say he didn't need 50 miles to beat a 650. That once he pulled away and the 650 showed no signs of catching up, which it wouldn't...the race would be over. Ride Safe, Have fun...I'm done with this one.

Sorry I should have clarified, it wasnt a balls out race, just one up to 50mph or so, just long enough to see who wins.....

I took him off the line so maybe he didnt get his best start, but I was easily 10 bikes in front of him......who knows if something was wrong with his bike either
