You've already discovered the guru on here...Fitz. The guy knows what he is talking about from many, many years of experience.

    Take a look at his write-up: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=122041.html

This will get you by without a manual, for this particular procedure. I HIGHLY recommend you get a service manual as well as a factory manual. Service manuals consist of Clymer or Haynes paperback book of your choice. They tend to leave out important various information about each particular task/checkpoint so a factory manual works great with 'em. Typical factory manuals are loose leaf binder sheets that can be found at XJCD or rarely on ebay

depending on your level of mechanical knowledge you can do your clearances without a book. its pretty easy . pretty damn easy. i know his wright up says its not to replace a book. but i find this website is my book. lol ive dled the hanes book and ive only thumbed through it. everything in there ive learned from here lol.

be a smart idea then to print and save the needed pages to a pdf format, for your own personal needs. what happens if this website suddenly vanishes? afterall this website did start with just one guy... I've printed off hundreds of forum postings with valuable information and kept them in a three ring binder. it was nice to print for free at school :)

Most NAPA stores and some other chains have a K-D tools display. If they do and you're lucky, they'll have a #2274 hanging there.

Yup - got some at napa this afternoon. I will be using your write up to do it. Seems pretty straight forward. I did it on my gixxer a few years ago and that was a real bitch compared to at least what i can see from your write up.
