I have been searching high and low for some highway bars for my 1982 Maxim 400 with no luck. I don't care what they look like, they are likely to be modified anyway. I have lots of parts (basically everything but the frame, engine, and wheels that I can trade if you need them or I can pay cash.

There are at least two, maybe still 3 sets floating around on eBay right now. At least one is NOS.

People call them different things, also, with the bigger bikes at least, some can fit several different models, I believe. Try searching for "case guards" or "engine guards" or "crash bars" and leave out the "XS 400" part, might be narrowing your search results.

Edit: There's this big loopy police style thing:

Don't know if that is what you have in mind, most people on here do "case guards" that just or protect engine, not an actual "crash bar" designed to keep your leg out from under the bike, I guess, which is what that thing is.

Thanks for the links, but here's the issue: the 82 maxim was built like an xj but the engine hangs from the heads. There's no down tubes.

I'm familiar with them and there are a couple of sets of case guards out there for that series bike, I just saw one yesterday but that was at work and I'm at home.

I'll try to find them for you when I get a sec. What's your 3-digit "model code" (the prefix of your "shorty" VIN?) I might have an NOS source that may have them but I need the model code in order to look up accessories.

In the links that Maximike provided you those are for xs360-xs400 "heritage special" type...
but if you look at the bottom of the second link you will find one for the Maxim... the half xj one....

    so here is the link...

Well I'll be damned. That's it. Thanks for everything guys. I might buy those but it seems a shame to buy perfect old stock and cut it up. If anyone happens to have a pair, I'm still looking.
