    Hey all

I'm kicking around the some ideas for a hardtail on my 81' xj650. I have seen full rear end chops and I have seen some with the tubing coming back off the bakbone welded to the swingarm. I was thinking of using he stock shock mount to bolt my tube to like is done on the driveshaft side. Anyone see any problems with this?

hello. drag guys, and gals, have been running lowered hardtail-converted rearends since they put dual rear shocks on bikes. new era screaming eagles actually use same system. im sure there are many design variations; solid bar, solid flat, steel tube, alunimum tube, etc, but all the same- ride softail style to track, bolt on solids, and rip down dragstrip. does that answer question? actually, if i remember a search of buds rides here will reveal such setups

So you want to basically chop the ass end of your frame, weld in new tubing that extends from just aft of the tank down to the stock lower shock mounts? Then just bolt it up?

I'm no expert, but I don't see a problem with it. Like thechuck mentioned; Folks run with tubing spacers instead of rear springs, and this is essentially the same.
