I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment

I bought a 1982 Maxim 650 and I am wanting to transform this beast into a cafe racer. It runs fine but cosmetically it is a utter mess.

I just want to know here most people start the transformation process.

I want clubman bars for it and i really want to change the horrific rear end and seat. Along with that I am wanting to simplify the electronics and get the lights working properly.

Any info, websites, or harassment is welcomed and appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. This website should have answers to just about any questions you have, and if not many of the members will. Update your signature to include your location so people nearby can offer help if needed. Also, be sure to go over all the safety aspects for the bike (can't remember the thread offhand but someone will chime in with it) and check out/replace all the outdated/expired/rotting/gone parts on your 30 year old bike. Otherwise, ask questions, look through the forum, and enjoy the process.

    Welcome again!

    Start with the Nose.
    Steering Head Bearings.
Then, work-out your Handlebars and Controls.
Brake lines will be different, ... Throttle and Clutch Cables too.
Plus you have to consider how the Brake Master will fit the new Bars.
