I've read through the posts on here where people have asked about putting a Seca tank on a Maxim frame but I never got the answer I was looking for. Will it physically mount right in place or will it need some modification (tank or frame?) I know people have said it wont look quite right, but is that just because it won't look quite right using the stock seat or it sits goofy on the frame and just doesn't look like? I'm already planning on making my own seat pan so I'm just looking at any fitment issues. Also, should I be looking for another 750 tank on eBay or should I look for a smaller 650?

    I have a 1982 750 Maxim.

The mounts for ALL tanks for 650's and 750's - including the TURBO will drop onto any other 650 - 750 frame, from 1980 to 1984.

    550's and 1100's won't drop on.

The 650 Maxim tank is a gallon smaller than the 750, so if you want a sexier look that shows off the motor a little more, get the smaller tank.

"Schooter" fitted a CB 750 tank, with mounting mods.
A different tank will need a large "tunnel" to clear the frame.

So, will the 750 Maxim tank bolt up to the 700 Maxim? I'm obviously looking to increase my capacity from the 3.no gallons to the almost 5 gallon tank if it makes sense to do so.

Ask Hogfiddles. I know that he has 650's, and 700's. He should be able to check the fit.

NO, not without more effort than it could ever possibly be worth. The 700 bikes are in a world of their own, and don't interchange/allow interchange between tanks with any other XJ models.

Chacal's right, the 650/750 type of tank is different than the 700 tank.

The 85/86 700 tank will only interchange with the 85/86 XJ700/750/700X/750X bikes. For as many parts interchange with the viragos, the tank doesn't interchange with them even though it looks very similar.

Now, that all being said, as MiGhost pointed out--I do have a bunch of parts for both series here, and I happened to be 'blessed' with a snowday today (ice) so I'll swap some tanks around just to see how badly they don't fit.

I don't know as I would call the 650 tank a 'sexy' look......I think the lines of the 750 maxim tank implanted on a 650 maxim are much more attractive.

Thinking about it, I think I also have a 750 Seca tank hanging up in the rafters. I'll stick that on to look at, too.

So...........the best laid plans------- turned out the rest of the family had snowdays, too, so basically nothing got done other than getting driveways blown clear of the snow before the rain spurts started. couldn't even get to ride the sleds.

Those of you who keep sending the snow--Please adjust the trajectory a little bit. The cannons are aimed just a little bit too far to the east. Bring the target area back to the central NY/Utica area. Right now you're hitting Albany, and even farther east. Some is even going so far off-target it's hitting into Connecticut.
