Does anyone here have any experience with Mac Performance 4-Into-1 Canister Exhaust System, I can tell that the joints on my original exhaust system have been welded by someone with no business operating a welder.
with a going rate of just over $300 it seems like a pretty good deal to me.

let me know what you guys think.

In terms of the 4-1 seems to boil down to personal preference, I haven't read anything bad about 'em. As a xj750rk owner myself I'm looking into a 4-1 mod in the near future, I think they really clean up the look.

I'm sure you might already know, but a modification to the exhaust you'll have to re-jet accordingly.

Im hoping that using the system with the baffle installed shouldn't need the re jetting to be too wild over stock. If I go that route then when I get my bike certified this spring ill have the bike guy at my uncles shop to go over my carbs and have him play with the jets for a while before I pick it up.
Im also looking at a used set of 4-1 exhaust that are still in pretty good shape, ill know more when I see the pictures.

Mine came with that exhaust and 118 (smaller) jets, and it ran OK, but I put in 120's anyway. Weighs about 15 LBS less than stock exhaust.

I also wrapped the core with fiberglass mat and drywall screen which made it really quiet.

    DON"T PAY $300

I was going to go with this as well, but after talking with the guys here, not so much. I'm going with pod filters and to combine that with the exhaust is going to make the bike run too much off stock.

Good luck if you do buy it and send some pictures!

It's thin expanded metal, may be zinc coated iron.
ask at a hardware store, or substitute aluminium window screen.

I formed the roll around a shovel handle to create an interior round void.

(drywall is also gypsum board or sheetrock)

That's all I've had on my two XJs, you'll need ear plugs. They sound nice though I must admit...

Other than the weight loss you won't get much gains other than noise but that's half the reason right? Watch out for speed bumps or speed humps, they'll hang a nice bit lower than stock too and might double as a skid plate from time to time :)

The 750 Seca had a "collector box" system.

There's magic in those collector boxes. Remove it, and you will need to re-jet.

The bike I bought came with that system. I can't say if the pipes themselves are to blame, but the plugs an chambers are covered in a pretty thick layer of carbon.
I won't be using them; they got damaged in transport (that skid plate thing combined with a clumsy ramp into my truck) and looked kinda skanky already. The metal is heavy enough that they should be pretty easy to use as the head of a custom exhaust. My impression is they probably don't stay pretty very long, but are otherwise solid. The collector is a bit naff though - no spike inside it.

yeh, thats what we call drywall in uk, or plasterboard.
i think i know what you mean now with the screen, its like a thin metal mesh " right"?

I got ahold of the guy whos got this used set, I'm getting the whole system with the muffler and baffle included for 40 bucks. its got a dent on one of the pipes but I'm not too worried about it. Now I just need an excuse to go to Kitchener sometime to pick them up.

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had issue getting the middle two pipes to seal to the head?

Im just wondering if there are any better ideas than pulling them off and using the high temp sealer on them

Arent those pipes from a 650? Not sure if theres an issue with interchangeability, but perhaps something you may want to look at before you start forcing things. :)

the fitment it the same but the pipe going to cylinder 3 is a little twisted from being in an accident but its manageable, im gonna try to straighten it out as best I can ( its only about a 1/8th out) then put it back together with a small amount of sealer.

so I think I got my pipes sealed up.
What i did was after fighting with twisting the pipes for a couple minutes, I put a straight edge across the ends of the pipes and using a grinder slowly brought pipes 3 and 4 down even with the other two (#4 didn't need much).

I then bolted the pipes to the head after cleaning and putting a small bead of high temp gasket maker (1/16th to 1/8th thick) on the faces of the exhaust ports. hand tight first then torqued an hour later after the sealer had set.

I then mounted the muffler after cleaning up the surfaces of the joint so they would slide together easy. I didnt have the mounting brackets that would have come with the exhaust set so i used one of the original pipe hangers, drilled and bolted it to the back side of the rear foot peg.

here are some pics, tomorrows job is testing for exhaust leaks then stripping the bike down to check my valves.

Was the old system a mac as well? The muffler looks ok, you could proabably swap with the black for more bling... Good luck with the valve check and glad to hear you have those pipes fitting OK!

the old pipes seemed to have the original style flanges as you can see in the last picture, but someone did some very bad things to it, I hope that bad of metal work wouldn't come out of a factory.
the original exhaust was 2 sets of 2-1, one set on each side.
