Whats up everybody!! 81 xj650 Build Thread

Hey Everyone just introducing myself. I come from the Boston area and I just picked up 81 xj650 that I am planing on doing a nice build with it. I am not planning on going to crazy with it ( no hardtail for me!) I come from the bicycle fabrication scene and have built over 400 messenger bikes. I murdered out a Honda ruckus so I figure my next project will be with an iconic 650.


So I picked this up running and a title for $450 cash on craigslist.


Cleaned out my garage to start the build


Started ripping it apart


No wonder it was running like crap


I am going to be using this for my inspiration with a few of my personal tweeks.




I love the whitewalls! Currently thinking cafe style exhaust, Pod filters (hopefully a jet kit will solve any bogging issues) and whitewalls.

I am have already debadged the tank and filled it with bondo.

Really digging the front rim. Please tell me you're gonna do it. There's a guy around here that makes a nearly bolt-on kit to put a rear rim on the front. I'm sure someone will remember his user name if you're interested. Keep up the good work. There's lots of smart asses around here to help you if you need it so just ask.

Quick update...finished priming the tank, now its time to rebuild these carbs!!
