I would like to get a helmet to helmet intercom so that I can talk to my wife when we ride. Do any of you guys have suggestions or recommendations? We both use full face helmets.
    Thanks.

I hear the chatterbox comms are really heavy on your helmet. I would get something that clips to your belt or is integrated into the bike.

    Midland ... others

The intercom/headsets are GMRS or FRS radios. Theoretically, you could use any GMRS or FRS radio.

Most of them are designed to be held in your hand, which makes steering and talking through a helmet difficult, not to mention wind noise.

So you will want to look for one that offers a motorcycle, noise-cancelling headset applicable to your helmet (open face for modular and 3/4 helmets, full faced for, well ...). I know that midland is one option.

Another is NADY. I haven't used their GMRS stuff but their wireless guitar and microphone stuff works as well as their Sure, Audio Technicna, etc., competitors.

I have the Cardo Scala Rider Q2 Multiset, and it seems to have a lot of great features in a small package. It's a helmet clip-on type, but is a lot smaller than the other ones I've seen. Plus, it has Bluetooth, so I can connect my GPS and cell phone together and switch seamlessly between them. It also has a port for a MP3 player. I have not tried the MP3 capability or the intercom yet (gotta get the wife out riding!), but the phone and GPS directions come through loud and clear. And an added bonus is a built-in FM radio.

This system is not very cheap, but for the features it provides and the size of the system, it was well worth the price to me.

    hey
I love to use Scala Rider.I bought it last year from Supercheap Auto . It is basically a helmet connected with a bluetooth set. it does the business, even in heavy traffic and at high speeds. I am loving it. I only bought the basic version but I know I can use it with the other fancier models.

You can also get Bluetooth rider-to-passenger intercoms -- a little more pricey I've heard, but they work very, very well.

couldn't you just get some cheap walkie talkies from target or radio shack and strap it on your belt, then get a cheap wired headset that can fit under your helmet? seems like it would do the job at a low price.

I have experienced scala Q2 and blueant intercom F4.

scala is nice product. The blueant disconnects from the friend when she gets more than a kilometer behind and it doesn't reconnect

aparently the scala system will still reconnect and battery life lasts a hell of a lot longer.

also above 65-70, my blueant F4 starts annoying voices, so it becomes impossible for me to enjoy music or stay connected with my pal

riders. Its just a useless device for me. so I would recommend scala to every one.

+1 on the scala Q2. I love mine. I frequently take phone calls while riding and the noise reduction is impressive. No one on the other end of the call believes that I'm actually riding my bike while speaking.
Also, voice activated helmet-helmet intercom is da' bomb. Once you get used to speaking to your passenger / riding buddy at a normal volume without turning your head, slowing down etc...., you'll never go back.

But the Q2 is not A2DP bluetooth (IE it is not stereo) meaning that I can't stream MP3s from my blackberry to my helmet, which sucks. The Q2 does have an FM receiver but not only is it mono, it just doesn't work very well and changing stations is a complete pain.

DaPuff.... which GPS are you using? I bought & returned many different units because apparently, the only ones that will pair with the Q2 are the garmin Zumo (bike-only) gps. Mucho-expen$ive. None of the more reasonably priced NUVI models will send spoken directions to my helmet with the Q2.

But for speaking to your passenger / riding buddy and taking phone calls, the Q2 works VERY well. Battery life is exceptional (all day no problem) it is very small, light and most importantly, WIRELESS!!!

jiashahood: yes, the new Scala G4 is coming out soon and it DOES have the newer A2DP bluetooth so you will be able to pair-up your phone WITH music and almost any GPS more easily. Not only are you gaining stereo sound, apparently, the sound quality will also be enhanced due to larger / better speakers.

+1 on the Starcom Advance. A bit pricey, but feature rich, clear comm, and you can add a transmitter, so this thing can either be on the bike rider to passenger, or bike to bike with transmitters.

But I am going to move to the Scala as well, now that SWMBO is riding her own scoot.

was looking at the g4 in supercheap last week and they are great. i think they've really improved on the q2.
so glad its got A2DP bluetooth, that was a major drawback of the q2.
really keen to get one now, just got to start saving!
thanks for all the help available on this forum too its great

Dez and I have had the Q2 for a while now too. Really wish it was stereo tho.

One thing i notice with it tho, if i'm out on my own with the radio on, and some wind hits the mic, it thinks i'm trying to connect to the other Q2, and mutes the radio for a few seconds, then gives up. It can do this quite often, and drains the battery rather fast, as well as annoying. When Dez sold his first bike, i reset my Q2 so it wasn't paired, and it worked a lot better.

No radio mutes trying to find a paired headset, battery lasts a LONG time!

While I agree with you, I think the guy that posted before you is a spammer. A two year old thread, and he just flows in on his first post on what he uses?
