My 1100 turn signals do not self-cancel. Is this a feature missing from the 1100 or is my bike in need of diagnosis?

Your XJ1100 should have it, assuming the gauges and electrical are all stock. IIRC diagnosis would have to be done on both the auto-cancel circuit and the headlight reserve unit.

    edit: one test set:

The gauges appear to be stock but the speedo and tach are both non-functional.

ah, if the gauges are non-functional, that could be the problem. it may be a simple fix or it could be a never have auto-cancel. when the gauges worked properly on my XJ1100, i found the auto-cancel to be problematic at best and would often blow the signals fuse every time it cancelled. now i have unplugged the module and just manually cancel.

There is a sensor in the speedometer the self cancel unit uses to measure distance traveled. If the speedometer isn't turning the self cancel unit measures 0 distance and won't cancel the signals.

    Fix your instruments first.

Yes , get your gauges to work first. Speedometer is easy there are only 3 main parts, cab;e, drive gear and speedo itself, A non working tach is a good indication the alternator also does not work. The XJ11 tach is driven off the alternator.

Yep, same on 750. The switch itself looks kind of like a fuse. It's mounted on the back of the face of the speedo. If you take the cluster apart, you can hear it opening and closing when you turn the speedo cable by hand. You can eliminate it as the problem by running a jumper wire to bypass the reed switch. Then you turn on the signals, and open and choose the jumped circuit a whole bunch of times, see if it cancels. That is, if you have a functional stock speedo on the bike.
