:( recently purchased1983 xj 750R se a for bobber project. My front wheel is completely locked up. I tried to bleed at valve on wheel about 5 cycles but didn't seem to help. I can't tell if calipers are engaged or not ?? Does anyone have any advise? Is it the caliper or could it be something else ??

Brake calipers are most likley stuck, bleeding won't help. Remove the calipers , dissamble and clean, new seals, rebuild the MC also. Basicly do a complete brake job front and rear. After all stopping is more imporntant than going. Wheel brarings do sieze up, you can check those after the calipers are off. With a fresh "old" bike you have lots of work ahead of you.

Yup, pull the calipers off, and you will know right away.

    Overhaul the Front Brakes.
    Do a Full Monte'.

Throw a Kit in the Master after you replace the Sight Glass with a Watch Crystal.
Upgrade to Stainless Wrapped Brake Lines.
    Overhaul the Calipers.
    New Seals.

When you have the Caliper(s) on the bench:
    Pick-out the Main Caliper Seals.
Be sure to scrape the nasty crud out of the Main Seal Channel and clean that channel right down to bare metal.

Right on y'all ..thanks for all the great advise. I was thinking caliper first then wheel bearing. Brake system upgrade is most definitely in order. I'm an amateur and I'm going to attempt to do as much of this as possible myself between service manual and your guys help. I ll keep updating. It's gonna be a work in progress for sure. Hope to roll out of garage halfway done at least by Summer.
