Continental tires...how are they?

I just bought an '82 XJ550 I'm trying to get on the road, and the tire choices available are MIND BOGGLING! As it's my first street bike I need some other people's opinions on tires. I'm looking at Continental tires, as I might be able to get a discount on them through work.

Here are the Continental tires that fit my bike:

    Front/Rear
    TK16/17
    RB2/K112
    TKV11/12
    TKH23/24
    CM1/2
    TK22/44

If anyone has any experience on these, please post! Or if you know of an exceptionally good tire deal out there. My plan is to use the bike for my 2 mile commute to work and some pleasure riding. I don't need a really sporty tire, just something predictable and reliable.

I recently put a set of pirelli sport demon tires on the XJ-750 and it made a huge improvement in handling. They cost $200 shipped (front and rear) from http://www.chaparral-racing.com/ I also run these tires on the Ninja 250 and have rode in the rain many times with no problems.

Those I know that run continentals are happy .... or at least don't complain to me. If you get a discount jump on it. I run Bridgestone Spitfire, but tires are an issue that will only have one consensus: you get what you pay for. But continental has a good rep from what I know. End of ramble.

My bike had Contis on when I got it. They lasted a couple years with me. The p.o. never mentioned a problem with them and I didn't have any problems either - just sidewall checking and tread wear expected with age. Sorry, I don't know what model they were.

Thank you for all the input, guys! I put together a spreadsheet of tire prices, and if I don't get a Conti discount I'll probably go with the Blitz, and if I do I'll get something a little nicer.

It sure seems like a lot of people run Dunlops...my dad just bought D404's for his Shadow 1100. However, it's in the process of being painted so I can't test ride it.

I've run the K112/RB2's on my Seca for years. Ran them on the old CB750 before that. One of the best rain tires (bias ply) I've ever used.
What I liked most about them, is that they are consistent...they stick well, but when they do break traction, it is not BAM..all of a sudden.
Probably not the smartest, but the RB2 that is on my '81 right now has the very outside rib worn down...they can handle the lean.

For the older bikes, I swear by 'em.

Although this pic is about 20 yrs old, the lean angle shows my confidence in them...
